Safety Audits
All safety management systems should include a process of internal and external audits to assess their ongoing effectiveness in reality. There is a real danger that an inappropriate approach to audit can have significant unintended consequences on the safe behaviour of your teams.
How can we help you?
We can help you review your safety management system to make sure you have the right level of audits in place. Audits that work for you and support your vision rather than creating bureaucratic systems that drive the wrong behaviours in your teams.
These audits should not be limited to review by one person or team, and should ideally include peer review, management review and safety team review as well as an occasional external review. The type of audit will be dictated by the safety maturity of the organisation and the residual risk inherent in the system as well as the desired impact on the team or the management.
Peer observations can be more powerful than official audits in many situations, and a simple ‘check properly check’ approach may be all that is required from a management perspective.
Alternatively, you may feel an external audit may prove invaluable to provide reassurance to customers or your insurer.
