A Safety Climate Assessment will provide a snapshot of your safety culture at a point in time.

The Safety Culture is best described as “the way we do things round here”, and in reality, it is a complex historical combination of individual and group values, attitudes, perceptions and behaviours. In large organisations, local subcultures can also develop dependant on the clarity and strength of leadership and participation at both a local and organisational level.

A climate assessment should measure Leadership, Communication, Teamwork, Safe Systems, Accidents, Workload, Resources, Attitudes, Trust etc

It will help you to target your resources and raise awareness of your commitment to health and safety, but remember this is just the starting point...it will only partially describe the reality within teams and practices at a given time.
